The Importance of Adaptability in Health and Wellness

Recently, I decided to re-establish a workout and health routine after taking a long hiatus. The craziness of schedules and other commitments had pushed my health aside. With several life changes occurring right now, it felt like the most critical time to reevaluate and make my health one of my top priorities. Much like the oxygen mask concept when flying, sometimes you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.

I almost unconsciously started this health journey in the summer, but I decided to commit no matter what. Now, one month in, one of the top lessons I have learned is the importance of adaptability. I had a good idea of what this journey would look like, but I have had to fight for the routine and schedule while knowing that to succeed, I must be flexible to the ever-changing world around me.

For instance, I spent a week with no access to equipment. Instead of giving up, which I might have done a year ago, I found other ways to continue the journey, like walking several miles daily. This health journey has taught me two things: it is okay to prioritize your own needs, and you must be flexible to succeed.

A nice bonus has been the incredible support and accountability from supportive family and friends. Their encouragement has been invaluable, reminding me that while adaptability is critical, having a solid support system makes the journey more manageable and enjoyable.
